Reimagining residential children’s homes Placement decision-making

This think piece considers practice and procedures around placement decision making in children’s residential care. Drawing on the available evidence, and on my own extensive experience in the field and looked beyond residential care as an option of ‘last resort’ and consider residential care as a placement of choice for some children.

The Efficacy and Sustainability of Consortia Commissioning of Looked After Children’s Services

Co-researcher and author - Research focused on consortia commissioning arrangements for residential child care and foster care provided by independent agencies. My research identified the consortia commissioning arrangements which existed. As part of a small team we used this to explore how well consortia worked and whether they could work more effectively to help improve outcomes for looked after children.

2024 Contract Review On behalf of the National Contracts Steering Group

National Fostering Model Contract

Commissioned by NAFP on behalf of the National Contracts Steering Group, I coordinated and led a collaborative review of the National Fostering Model Contract. This involved bringing together local authority commissioners from all regions and numerous independent fostering providers together to develop understanding, facilitate compromise and shape a contract that aids sufficiency and better meets the needs of children.

Guidance to support local authorities and IFAs to work together to ensure a notice period is managed effectively and efficiently. This guidance places a focus on enabling parties to work together to plan better and develop a greater likelihood of stability in a child's next placement.
